The Disadvantage of Internet Marketing

It wasn’t so long ago that newspaper marketing was the only source of advertising in real estate. Then various websites started popping up and marketing was diversified. Originally, all the web marketing campaigns were free however with today’s tech-savvy generation, internet companies have started taking advantage and nowadays campaigns can vary from $2,000 – $3,000. But is the spend really worth it?

The answer to that is, that internet marketing has its strengths but it also has its weaknesses.

When a property first hits the market, the real advantage the internet offers is that it can be immediately promoted to the entire marketplace instead of having to wait a week until the paper is delivered. Keep in mind that companies like realeatate.com.au and domain.com.au make their premiums on position enhancement. I.e. If you want to be at the top of the search list, you have to pay more.

A huge disadvantage of internet marketing however is that when other properties hit the market after yours, your property moves down the ranks in the search and is then is quickly forgotten about. This is why when marketing your home, the internet is usually good for approx. 2 weeks of marketing. After that, you need to start looking into other avenues to give your campaign some presence.
